What actually drives the price of a fence
No two fence projects cost the same, because the price is built from a handful of variables. Before you compare quotes, it helps to know what you are paying for:
- Material, vinyl, wood, chain link, aluminum or iron, composite, and farm wire all sit at different price points.
- Linear footage, the total length of the fence is the single biggest factor.
- Height, a 6-foot privacy fence uses more material than a 4-foot picket.
- Gates, walk gates, and especially double or rolling drive gates, add hardware and labor.
- Terrain, slopes, rocky soil, and hard-to-reach yards take more time to dig and set.
- Old fence removal, tearing out and hauling away an existing fence is an added line item.
Rough price ranges by material
Every property is different, so treat these as general guidance for professionally installed fence in Cache and Davis County, not a quote. From most budget-friendly to premium:
- Chain link, the most affordable option, great for pets, play areas, and security.
- Farm & field, the most economical way to enclose large acreage.
- Wood & cedar, mid-range, with a warm, classic look and lots of style options.
- Vinyl, a higher upfront cost than wood, but virtually no maintenance for decades.
- Ornamental iron and aluminum, priced for strength and a decorative, see-through style.
- Trex composite and SimTek, premium materials with the best longevity and curb appeal.
Why the cheapest quote is not always the cheapest fence
It is tempting to pick the lowest bid, but a fence is a long-term investment in your property. Thin materials, shallow post depth, and unbraced corners can look fine on install day and then lean, sag, or heave a few winters later. In Cache Valley especially, freeze-thaw cycles and wind are hard on a fence that was not built right. We would always rather quote you an honest number for a fence that lasts than the lowest number for one you will replace.
How to get an accurate fence quote
The only way to know what your project costs is a real, on-site estimate. When you request a free quote, a local estimator measures your property, talks through materials and gates, checks the terrain, and gives you an upfront price, no pressure and no surprises. We have been doing exactly that across Northern Utah since 1965.
